Greetings from Gallifrey Day 1
Well, the Gallifrey One convention in L.A. anyway!

It's only the first day of the convention and I'm already dazed and ever so slightly confused LOL  We started out the morning with faithharkness and morwencath by attending the Gallifrey 101 panel which was basically an introduction to the con for newbies.
After that was over, we all went our separate ways - I went to the panel called TV and the Fan Community.  The panelists were Craig Miller, Jane Espensen, Doris Egan, Gillian Horvath, Javier Grill-Marxuach and Natalie Morales.  Yes, I made it through the entire panel without throwing anything at Espensen - mainly because, other than in her introduction, Torchwood was not mentioned.  I really enjoyed the panel, it was interesting to see how the 'other side' views the changing world of fandom and how it affects (or doesn't affect) television shows.  Probably my favorite panelist was Javier - 1) He was dressed up for cosplay and 2) he was funny as hell.  Close second was definitely Gillian Horvath - mainly because she's worked on a couple of my favorite tv shows ever-Highlander and Forever Knight.  (BTW - for those of you watching Once Upon A Time, Jane Espensen was talking about getting tweets from fans about rumors that they would be killing off Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin or Captain Hook or August Booth - her comment about the tweets was that those characters "weren't all going to die."  Followed closely by "none of them, I meant none of them are going to die."  So, we shall see... )

Anyway, that was the only real panel I went to today.  After it was over I went down to pay for the photo ops I wanted (Mark Sheppard, Ben Browder & Freema Agyeman), then spent some time (and money) in the dealers hall.  Oh. My. God.  I could spend soooo much money in the dealers hall!!!!!

Hubby and I took a short break in the room to decompress from ALL THE PEOPLE and then I went and got my picture taken with Mark Sheppard.  Honestly, I don't know if I was more excited about the fact that I was meeting Canton Everett Delaware III, Crowley, Badger or Jim Stirling.  Because of my internal debate, I, like a total twit, didn't say one word to the guy *headdesk*  Oh well, I'll have another chance when I get the picture autographed on Sunday.

The rest of the afternoon was spent in the main hall watching the special guest interviews.  Michael Jayston played The Valeyard in the classic series and was quite interesting.  Frances Barber - Madame Kovarian - knows absolutely NOTHING about sci-fi but is a funny lady.  Shaun Dingwall - Pete Tyler - is fantastic.  I only listened to part of Peter Purves interview as I had to leave for a bit but I am sooo glad that I came back for Mark Strickson's interview!  Mark played Turlough on the classic series of Who and I could listen to that man talk all day!  After being on Who, he went to Australia and now makes documentaries.  He is, in fact, the person that brought one of my favorite nature hosts to the public view - Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter!!  Listening to Mark talk about the work he does is just fascinating.  Anyway.....

After the opening ceremonies, where they introduced all of the special guests (except Freema, whose plane had just landed), hubby and I went to dinner.  We were seated at a table in the bar area, which is where a lot of the special guests had apparently gone to get drinks!!!!  Including Sylvestor McCoy!!!!!  OMG!!!  It completely does my head in on how approachable all of these people are.

I am exhausted so I'm not going to any of the stuff tonight but stay tuned...there will definitely be more fun tomorrow, including the possibility of drunken karaoke.  (Faith looks on it as a challenge because I made the mistake of mentioning that I have never been drunk enough to attempt karaoke.  She's on a mission.  I asked my hubby to help me, but he just said that he's going to video it and post it on youtube.  I'm surrounded by evil.)

Sounds like a really cool time. LOL at not throwing anything at Jane Espenson.

Hee on the drunk karaoke. I've also never been drunk enough to do karaoke. I think my boyfriend would be evil enough to support getting me drunk enough to do. He'd probably keep the video for his own private collection though. :)
